The Art of Doing Nothing is a Secret to Master to Lead a Productive Life

Updated: Jan 2, 2023

Hey, folks, it's the end of the year! And many of us need help to meet the year-end deadlines, rechecking whether we have fulfilled our last year's goals, and wondering: what will be the following year's resolutions? Let's pause for a minute.

It's the end of the year. If we take a deep look at this, we can understand that we have spent about 360 days of our lives productively. We've shown up to meetings, exchanged incomplete tasks, and even appreciated ourselves on days when we wanted to give up but didn't.

This is all about commitment, consistency, and productivity.

When you look at the whole year, how many days did you really breathe and reflect on your life experiences? Have you ever sat down with a cup of coffee and paused or even written a single line in your journal about gratitude?

Because of this 3D world, we have adapted ourselves to look at deadlines, goals, protocols, ambitions, and aspirations in life, and we may be putting ourselves on the back burner.

Do we communicate effectively with people in our lives? Do we say the most beautiful words, "sorry" or "thank you," to a stranger or even a loved one? Do we stop every day for at least a minute to breathe and unplug ourselves from the constant demands of our household, work, or even ourselves?

Here's a quick tip for spending your last few days of this gorgeous 2022,

Do nothing! Yes, you have heard it right!

Nothing is an art that many people do not master in their lives. Slowing down and processing everything that happened in 2022 and reducing yourself to the bare minimum you can do during the last few days of the year will help you kickstart the following year in a more meaningful and conscious way.

You can retreat by going to different places or even spend a vacation doing nothing. But if you think even planning a vacation can be overwhelming for you, especially for people with anxiety or depression or who are alone right now, the best way to do nothing is to focus on yourself and do things that give you pure happiness.

  • Wake up 15 minutes late.

  • Brew a hot cup of coffee from scratch.

  • Take a 15-minute walk to relax your mind.

  • Go to the nearest vegetable vendor, look at all the colors of fruits and vegetables, and buy something fresh for the day.

  • Take at least an hour to cook slowly by chopping vegetables and making your favorite meals for the day.

  • Journal your thoughts and even list things you're grateful for this year.

  • Refrain from making plans for gatherings, parties, or anything else for the next few days.

  • Use the bookmark to read a book you've had for a long time.

  • Listen to a podcast instead of a movie to refresh yourself mentally.

  • Book a meditation or spa session to relax your body.

  • Light a candle and sit with your thoughts for at least 15 minutes daily.

  • Go to bed early and stay away from gadgets.
